The Official Society for the Blackpool Tramway

F.T.S Christmas Event 2007

The Fylde Tramway Society held their annual Christmas Event on 29th December.  The day normally involves a tram tour over the system and a meal at the North Euston Hotel in Fleetwood.  However this year, with the tramway closed for essential repairs, the tour took place on ex-London RML2734 (SMK734F), provided by the Lancastrian Transport Trust's operating arm, Classic Bus Lancashire.

By the kind agreement of Blackpool Transport's Managing Director, Mr. Steve Burd, a number of trams including recently repainted Balloon 711 were displayed on the tram depot fan for an hour from 11.00 - 12.00 to allow for photographs, whilst wartime liveried Brush Car 623 was in use on short shuttles up and down Hopton Road.

At 12.00 the bus departed for a tram system tour, with stops provided to allow the trackwork to be seen and photgraphed.  Following the lunch break, 2734 returned along the length of the Fleetwood tramroad, including Dickson Road, then followed the old Marton Tram route to Royal Oak, before returning to the tram depot.
