125th Anniversary of Blackpool Trams

Yes, it really has been 25 years since those magnificent celebrations to mark 100 years of continuous tramway operation in Blackpool. The 1985 season in Blackpool was certainly a time to remember, when the town was packed with thousands of people flocking to soak up the amazing atmosphere. On centenary day itself, an estimated 1 million people were in the resort, most of whom had come to witness the grand cavalcade of trams along the famous promenade.
Well, time flies by, time for another celebration!
A special programme of events is to be staged by Blackpool Transport Services Ltd, and a good number of tramcars from museum's around the country will be visiting Blackpool for the celebrations. Details of planned events so far are as follows;
Friday 24th September
The first event to start off the celebrations will be a Welcome Meeting in the evening
Saturday 25th September
A vintage tram service will operate between Pleasure Beach and Cleveleys
Sunday 26th September
A Depot Open Day will be held and will take a similar form to the one held for the 70th Anniversary of the streamlined fleet in 2004. Blackpool Transport are keen to hear from anyone wishing to have a stall on the day
Wednesday 29th September - Anniversary Day
The day of the 125th Anniversary will feature a procession of trams. The procession will take place in the afternoon and will be followed by a Celebration Dinner in the evening.
Further events are likely to be arranged by various societies between Friday 24th and Wednesday 29th September, involving the use of vintage and visiting trams on a programme of tours. This will, we hope, make it well worthwhile staying in Blackpool for several days for this event, the scale of which is unlikely ever to be repeated here. Now is the time to be arranging your accommodation, if you need any, because of course, the event occurs over an Illuminations Weekend!

Blackpool 'Marton Vambac' 11 from Carlton Colville
Manchester 765 from Heaton Park
Blackpool 'Marton Box' 31 from Beamish
Southampton 45, Leeds 399, Glasgow 22, Porto 273, Blackpool 'Balcony Standard' 40, Blackpool 'Pantograph' 167 from Crich (With London 159 as a reserve if completed)
Blackpool 'Open Standard' 143 from the L.T.T (With EE Railcoach 279 and O.M.O 8 if completed)
